Excuse me while I take this moment

to laugh at all of those who sold due to Nicaragua "country risk".

Do you believe the Nicaragua country risk is now vanquished forever? I sold some last year but I'm always measured in my actions because IMO no on can predict what's coming next.  I reduced my exposure during that event but I got back in at a good price and now hold more than ever. Am I doing the right thing?  I'll take some profits if it goes up further to minimize the ...more

That does not even make sense.  Did something just "change forever" there?  It's no different from a miner that i am very familiar with and hold - EDV.  They trade at a discount because they are purely West African based.  Nothing will change that.  I accept it.  There is risk.  Foolish to think otherwise. tC

I don't think karead is implying that country risk does not exist.  It does.  However there are many positive factors that a lot of people chosse to ignore and simply dismiss Calibre as an investment based on its geographical location in Central America.   That is a big mistake.  Share price performance in 2024 speaks for itself.

Share price performance in 2024 is maily due to MOZ takeover closing which has significantly reduced risk and at a takeout price near the cycle bottom.  imo. I found the post to be condenscending to investors who would rather not be exposed to that level of risk.   Prior to VL, the level of risk of CXB was quite high.  tC

Every Jesus item on the list is risky as far as I am concerned. Kinross use to be twenty odd bucks. Went below 3 or 4 since. On and on and on

CXB share price would have been at least this level right now if Valentine had never come into the picture. The MOZ takeover has yet to affect the share price performace in my opionion. Country risk in Nicaragua is way overblown. The country is mining friendly, and miners have been operating in there trouble free for 20 years or more.  Besides which, it's all the mining risk in ...more

If Nicaragua is so miner friendly, I often wonder why B2 Gold decided to get out of there?
Comment by Stratocheif on Mar 12, 2024 10:09pm
The thing that has always been in my mind about CXB  in Nicaragua is the hub n spoke operation. You got big trucks rumbling half way across the country day in and day out...down dirt roads  cobblestone roads that pass thru villages etc. Most mines are out in the boondocks and hard for anyone to even see them. That's why I always have an opinion that there may be risk there, and maybe ...more

"If the population gets fed up with this heavy truck traffic, they may petition the government to restrict it." Umm. Pretty sure the population does not petition the government to do anything in Nicaragua...
Comment by geezer21 on Mar 13, 2024 10:10am
They put rubber tires on the trucks so that they run quiet on the roads.

B2 Gold did not "get out of there". This news release explains their involvement in Nicaragua... https://www.b2gold.com/news/archive/2019/b2gold-and-calibre-mining-join-forces-in-nicaragua-calibre-mining-to-acquire-el-limon-and-la-libertad-gold-mines-b2gold-to-become-calibreaposs-largest-shareholder

Yes it has significantly reduced the risk simply because they will have multiple mines instead of 2. . Nevertheless jurisdictional risk is still there as a major part of thier operations will still be in a higher risk jurisdiction. And there is risk everywhere anyway. Even in Canada or Australia mines sometimes fail so the more mines a company has, the less risk of it going to zero. Look at SSR ...more

Wow!  I was going to weigh-in on company risk again, in response to the "laughing" but it is clear that many CXB investors are already thinking about this. The "country risk" cannot be quantified but it likely weighs on SP.  There may never be an event that massively reduces SP,  or you might wake up to a big problem one day.  A related problem is the human ...more
