Shorting CXR

Shorting CXRThere was a post by Stockcoach awhile back where he explained that ones shares could be "borrowed" by shorters if there is an open order on those shares even if the ask price is much higher than the current price. If this is correct then it doesn't seem like a good idea for anyone who is long to keep these open sell orders with a high ask price since it just helps the short vultures.  Is that how it works?
