According to the article The Timing of Earnings Announcements: An Examination of the Strategic Disclosure Hypothesis, the more probable reasons to announce before the markets open (BMO) have more to do with the company being headquartered in the East, and/or management believing that the earnings results will be readily understood by the markets and not require substantial time to analyze or interpret.
