RE:RE:RE:Poor 4DX...Profordo1: unfortunately I never got a response back from Europapark In Germany to the email I sent asking for some clarification about their April D-Box announcement. At the time it appeared to me that they might be adding a new virtual roller coaster that Incorporated D-Box seats for virtual motion. But after further study of their website it appeared that they were only adding a new pre-ride movie theatre exhibit that included D-Box seats.
As as for Mars Cinema Group, I'm no expert but I believe they were only in Turkey. However as noted by Lendlfan back on July 4th, the Mars Cinema Group was recently bought up by none other than South Koreas CJ CGV (the 4DX company). CJ CGV is also now a top 10 multiplex operator in China and they appear to be growing fast in China. I agree with Lendlfan's comments about 4DX and D-Box being complimentary (as opposed to competitive) offerings so sure, CJ CGV could be a great partner for D-Box in China.
My handle is IMAXFAN because I enjoyed IMAX films from the first one I saw as a kid back at expo 67 in Montreal, and I did very well investing in IMAX over the years :-) I also got into D-Box several years ago and I'm no longer invested in IMAX. However, as an IMAX investor I recall Rich Gelfond (IMAX CEO) always talking about how the business culture in China is very unique and it can take a while to adapt and forge successful partnerships there. I believe D-Box is doing all the right things by opening an office in China and partnering with the Chinese investing group Gold Finance. So like the rest of us I'm just hoping that these efforts will soon bear fruit in the form of additional expansion into China. I've also just begun using Google Chrome to try to translate the websites of the 7 existing D-Box theatres in China to see if they can provide any new clues on further D-Box installs etc...
