How the China Film Group deal opens theatre doors to D-Box Until this deal was reached, I believe D-Box had no formal agreement in place that allowed them to imbed their motion code in locally produced Chinese films. So the only films a Chinese theatre could charge a D-Box premium ticket price for were the D-Box encoded Hollywood import films. Since more than half of the feature films shown in Chinese theatres are locally produced films, the D-Box seats would have been idle for more than half the films shown which means they wouldn't generate any increased revenue. However, the new deal with China Film Group means even locally produced Chinese films can now have D-Box motion code embedded which means the Theatres showing these films can now justify the investment in D-Box seats based on a larger slate of D-Box enabled films. So moving forward, as more and more Chinese films become D-Box encoded, more and more Chinese theatres will want to install D-Box seats.
