This type of purchase is capped at amounts already stated. I don't understand your logic.. you're worried about John buying 30k shares and the NCIB running up price of a max allowed buy of 40k shares a day by the company

Wouldn't that be some form of front-running? At the expense of fellow shareholders? If the CEO thinks the SP is a deal, doesn't his fiduciary duty to shareholders call him let the company buy back shares first? I'm not a lawyer but I'm pretty sure there are rules surrounding this potential coarse of events, and if not the optics would look horrible. Just saying...
