GermanyI think it was Pandora who posted regarding the EU State Aid decision(s) for Germany funding NO2 reduction retrofits. It looks like the full decision(s) are now out. Sadly, the decisions confirm that the funding is for exhaust after-treatment systems, only:
- The support will cover investment and installation costs for exhaust after-treatment systems (Abgasnachbehandlungssystem) for the purpose of reducing NOX emissions, based on a general type approval (Allgemeine Betriebserlaubnis, ABE) for NOX reduction systems, as specified in the respective Frderrichtlinien (funding guidelines) and Technische Anforderungen (technical requirements) for each notified scheme. All three different technical requirements define specific requirements to be met by NOX reduction systems.
Ironically, these after-treatment systems
increase fuel consumption:
- However, the German authorities explained that the retrofitting will induce additional costs (a slight increase in fuel consumption, maintenance costs). It is estimated that the additional consumption for all three categories will be less than 10%.
Of course, it is too bad that DYA's product cannot or has not been satisfactorily proved to satisfy these requirements:
- The retrofitting systems shall comply with the technical requirements set out in Annexes I to the three funding guidelines. Following reductions of NOX emissions must be demonstrated for the retrofitted vehicles: Heavy municipal vehicles: 85% reduction; Heavy commercial vehicles: 85% reduction; Light commercial and municipal vehicles: 75% reduction.
Considering at least some NO2 reduction, plus fuel consumption reduction, one would have hoped for some participation in this funding scheme.
