In Europe, 3-phase WYE-configuration with center ground is predominant, while in NA, DELTA-configurations (with or without high leg) prevail. Europe has a wire color code (which is now also predominant in Asia) that differs from the color code in North America. It is life threatening to install equipment with the wrong color code into a plant. The electrician sees (for example) black, red and blue wires (Canadian phase 1 through phase 3 colors), and makes the interpretation (by European color code) that he sees only one life high voltage wire (the black one), while the rest are low-voltage control wires (WRONG!). For this reason, everything would have to be rewired. The synchronous motors would have to be exchanged. Did I mention that the predominant voltages in industrial systems also differ?
So: forget about taking systems across the pond. It wouldn't get further than the loading dock. Any eectrical inspector would instantly condemn the installation.
It's not hard to change motors and gear rations on the equipment to work in EU and motor drives on a line equipment are likely variable speed as a requirement for control so should have their own AC drive inverters that are univeral input.
I don't what color wires are in Europe but i sell universal AC equipment all over the world 50/60Hz and have not problem with the EU customs, so it's not a big deal.
