Considering they made giant metal birds cross the Atlantic and mechanical horses that run on dead plants buried underground for eons, I'm not sure "never" makes a whole lot of sense. Renewable energy is the fastest growing sector in energy and many countries are getting north of 50% of their supply from green sources. This is after only a single decade of sustained investment. The infrastructure necessary for fully exploiting an energy source is rarely built in a single decade, so things are only going to improve from here.
