The media narrative is that while Trump can say and do what he wants..it is the State Governors that have the final say in terms of what gets done re going back to work.  In his announcement yesterday...Trump basically went along with this narrative.

In actual fact..under the US Constitution the President has the final say in all this NOT the Governors...

Really !!.....You ask!!...Yep!!!

Under the US Constitution the President/Federal Government has the unfettered right and jurisdiction for interstate commerce and so a Governor passing a state Executive Order prohibiting commerce in his state is de facto prohibiting some interstate commerce unless those businesses sole activity and that of their supply chain are resident in that state and the products that they sell are only avaliable to residents of that particular state.....there would be very few if any businesses that would meet this criteria...

The problem facing Trump in actually exercising this authority is obvious...

1...the Democrats would take it to court in a jurisdiction like Washington State where the judges are all Democrats and get an injunction

2...there would be an argument as to which Branch of Government has the authority...The Executive Branch (ie The President----Trump) or Congress (ie---Nancy Pelosi)

From a political strategy making the announcemnt and leaving to the Governors is a win-win for Trump...he is seen to be trying to get people back to work and any delays or screwups will be on the shoulders of the Governors and if everything works well he will be able to take credit for it because he will be able to say they just following his guidelines...

Fantome, you obviously know nothing about the U.S. Constitution. First of all you have stretched the meaning of the term interstate commerce far beyond the meaning of "interstate" to mean all commerce. You'd make a lousy lawyer as any reasonable judge would laugh you out of court. Read this article and educate yourself a little about the U.S. Consitution.

And I forgot to include the article.
