Pretty sure it will never end. The whole point is to stand on the high moral ground, not to win. Political animals don't do what they do for rational reasons, or to even necessarily fix the problems they say they want to fix. You see the same type of thing with the whole lockdown argument, "We'll do whatever we need to do, even to save one life, the fact that drug, and alcohol abuse is way up doesn't matter, the fact that spousal abuse is way up doesn't matter, the fact that suicide is way up doesn't matter, what matters is he/she said they would do whatever it takes to save one life, and do idiotic things in the name of saving one life, now donate to their re-election! To be fair you see the same thing with pro life, donate to me because I will fight for the pro life cause. But even when they have all the power they don't do anything to solve the problem, but next cycle they will say how they stand on the high moral ground, and to donate to their campaign. Full disclosure, I am pro life and have lost all hope.
