Enbridge Inc > worst stock I have owned.

worst stock I have owned.

I should have bought banks in December . Canadian Banks are up 70 to 80% and are still going up. Thinking of selling all Enbridge just before the next dividend.
Big mistake.

You should never rely on one stock or even one sector. It is only asking for trouble.

last qtr. Enbridge made lots of mony and analysts all upgraded the stock and I thought now is the time it will start recovering but NO. For last 5 years it is languishing. Used to be a darling stock and now a nightmare stock.

I am actually quite shocked at how many people hold only a few stocks. I don't believe in total diversification like mosy finanacial advisors do, but it seems pretty obvious to me that if you want to avoid all those should have, could haves and minimize your stress, then you want to own 10-20 or so companies in 4 or more sectors. It's each to his own but if you are always second guessing ...more

That's what I was thinking.  Too funny if they sell then the price appreciates.

I like Warren Buffett's view 'you don't need to diversify if you know what you are doing'. Others can pick an indexed fund to avoid paying investment advisors fees and to avoid stress. Beats 1/2 percent in a bank account. There is not much better than ENB. 7 percent dividend plus share appreciation. Works great for me. Much like owning a piece of the 407.

Hey Leo Excellent point on XDIV and VDY being great options especially for an investor that doesn't want to take the time to pick indiividual stocks and for one that has limited dough.. As an aside, after watching the grandkids account for a little while, I actually sold their ENB shares and bought VDY back on Feb 24th. It was a toss up between VDY and XDIV but I liked VDY a tiny bit more ...more
