A Cape Breton company has been awarded the contract to construct an access roadto the Donkin coal mine, according to an island MLA.
Cape Breton West representative Alfie MacLeod said Wednesday the contact wasawarded to Municipal Ready-Mix and work is expected to begin immediately. Thevalue of the contract is more than $1 million.
“The road is approximately 2.5 kilometres long and construction will beginimmediately — this is great news. I am pleased to see things moving forward atthe mine and look forward to the work getting started.”
Xstrata Coal has already invested about $25 million in the mine. Continuedinvestments in tunnel maintenance in the mine could total up to $4 millionannually.
