Links explaining Country risks in Colombia

I am a premium member of Seeking Alpha and some of their articles do not allow pasting or links to open. The paste on PXT did not copy in full, so here is the link as well as a another link on PXT both covering the Colombian country risk in detail.  A successful Wei well would far override the Colombian country risk and my personal view is that the Venture Capitalist Hedge funds likely holding majority interest in FEC would use a successful Wei to bail out of FEC one way or another. Whjy would a hedge fund want hold a Colombian O and G company long term? The top article again helps explain why FEC's share price is depressed.

Not buying it as I live in Colombia. The Peso devalued to US dollar from 4000 to a little over 5000. Today the peso is @ 4590 based on fear mongering by right that the left would turn Colombia into VZ and the rise in US interest rates. The stock price of both EcoPetrol, Bank of Colombia took hits. The oil company EcoPetrol is owned by Colombian govt and Colombian govt gets it's big dividends ...more

Fish, I doubt anyone on this board who owns FEC, including myself, disagree with your last statement "FEC is severely undervalued". It has been a subject of discussion for some time. However as the two articles on Parex clearly point out, the perception of country risk is likely the main reason both companies are undervalued.  Most investors are skittish right now, and O and G ...more

Thanks for your insight. I just want to mention oil prices just hit a 7 week high today  and the Colombian Peso to US dollar has dropped again. Eventually these mm will be forced to increase share price along with positive press release. If a big investor decides to step into this play, some of these MM and hedgies could be in some trouble. Another poster asked about other plays in Colombia.. ...more

Thanks Fish, I'm actually thinking of buying Colombian pesos on spec. Lol. Kind of an informal forex play. My wife is Colombian with bank account there. Buy pesos with dollars now and wait till dollars devalue relative to pesos. Why I'd do it? Because I trust the Colombian financial system. Petro can blab all that he wants but if he starts screwing with the stability of the financial ...more

A Coincidence My wife is Colombian as well, American moved there 6 years ago retired and I love it here...Peso dropped again to around 4550. That is a support area but could drop further in time. I picked up a cd when interest rate hit 13 percent here but I expect rates here will start dropping now that Fed is slowing interest rate increases in US. I think it's a stable financial system here ...more

Maybe another coincidence. I love peacock bass fishing which is great in Venezuela. Yeah I'm quite used to volatility living in these parts but it doesn't affect us much anymore. Especially not my wife's family with a farm near Sincelejos, Colombia where they produce much of what they need, themselves. Pretty self-sufficient people. I'm retired oil patch, lots of experience ...more

Hi Kelvin. There isn't much fishing as I am far from the coast near Medellin but the Peacock Fishing sounds awesome..They are beautiful fish indeed. Glad to hear your experience here on drilling and hope you stick around and give us your thoughts on the ongoing program with Wei. Maybe in the future will make a trip to VZ and check out the country. Here is  Success for all. Gracias Amigo ...more

Sounds great Fishfanatic! Yeah we'll go down to Guri lake, remote jungle fishing camps. Nice set up! Got everything - transportation from a small town, boats, guides, accomodations, great meals, beverages,  beer, wine, spirits etc. Just bring your fishing gear. Mostly top water fishing, lures, woodchoppers. The woodchoppers really piss the bass off and they come flying out of the water ...more

Fish, Que tal, buenos dias. You make a very solid case. I live next door to you in Venezuela. Here, the government is now begging for foreign investment after two decades of scaring it away. Yet few foreign companies are interested. All economic sectors are affected - mining, energy, manufacturing, tourism, agriculture etc still contracting. They government finally realized that their hostility ...more
