Mat, I don't think conspiracy is the right word but maybe stacking the deck so as the house brokers and big players who day and short term trade try to do so at our expense.. You are only seeing the level two for the TSX and not the ATS markets and yesterday about half the trades were ATS trades. They show up at the end of the day but you don't see those orders fill live. Just like you don't see the OTC orders show up on the TSX unless the US market maker had to fill a larger order on the TSX and it will show up on both exchanges.  

Here is a list of trades per minute yesterday. This happens almost every day and not exactly sure why. But go to the  highlighted time block of the 2 minutes between 11:58 and 11:59 and you see suddenly 98 trades took place to trade 17,800 trades. Most of those were 100 lots. I have no idea why this is done, mayber someone can explain why suddenly a large number of mostly small trades are placed often by the same broker. What does that accomplish?
