New Stores

From David George-COSH

Canadian cannabis retail store count (as of June 18):

Canada - 949
B.C. - 194 (75 "Coming Soon")
Alberta - 476
Saskatchewan - 44
Manitoba - 30
Ontario - 92 (423 "In Progress")
Quebec - 42
Nova Scotia -12
New Brunswick - 20
P.E.I. - 4
Newfoundland - 25
Yukon - 5
NWT - 5

92 stores in Ontario now and fire was in every single new store in Toronto. 423 coming!!!!

this is insane potential - and with the available inventory to service this huge growth in stores and a sales team able to penetrate - I expect huge rec sales revenues from fire.....

I know they aren't at 1922 in Toronto. It opened last week.

Next time you're in there ask them why, out of curiosity.  Until the OCS goes hands off on delegating, and the cannabis industry becomes more disintermediated, it's going to cause chaos for the retailers.  Still wish there was a little more transparency in how the price per gram is handled from producer - OCS - Retail - Consumer.

In my opinion, when you have so many layers, needing to send product to the province for distribution etc, the lead time to get the product to the consumer and then the money back in the bank is absolutely ridiculous. By the time the consumer gets it the product is yellow and old. The cost on the company to be out of pocket that long is a killer. Take this thought; how much in additional ...more

In my opinion, it's more than fully saturated. It's saturated by the competition on the black market. The LP space is maybe 30%-40% at most of the total pie in Canada.

the link from maritime below - all these stores had a good amount of fire product - that's what I checked.  going forward - 400+ more store!? Even with 85% penetration that's a huge distribution / sales revenue.  again - majority of fires sales are from retail.  https://www.blogto.com/city/2020/06/cannabis-stores-opened-toronto/

Yes, and legal retail was 0% not long ago...

I live in the GTA. To me it looks like actual store sales may be down. The ocs is doing free next day delivery. Ocs is pricing goods less then they sell for in store. I always buy my supreme brand goods online as stores mark this up to much.
Comment by watchmeplz on Jun 18, 2020 3:42pm
In my opinion, Adding more stores in a already saturated market place helps you.. how? The reason for people continuing use through the black market is solely because of price and not ease of access. Price will never compete because of 3 layers of taxation and the cannabis stamp you need on every package. Let alone the 6 figure incomes of your higher management, lawyers, tsx fees, sop's, and ...more

Your argument makes absolutely no sense.  the clear trajectory of the sector is monthly growth in cannabis sales as stores increase - it's a completely clear correlation.  Other data clearly shows store sales are vital - I believe in Nova Scotia only 2% of sales were online.  Having ease of access, and same day purchase/consumption is huge.   Look at Colorado - year ...more

In my opinion, every country is unique and to compare Colorado to our Canadian history is further apart than Apple to oranges. Colorado didn't have a distribution network that consumers openly/publicly relied on for years (dispensaries and compassion clubs) before the state had licensed producers show up. This long-standing big money distribution isn't simply going to disappear and they ...more

Here, here give 'em both barrels joh, 2yrs is fine but a quarter or two will do the trick but the has been a big drop in short positions on FIRE lately...but it is a waste of time ot spend it on the usual cast of clowns here. The retail outlets opening in Ont is exactly what Beena is going to focus on, it is right in her backyard, minimal resources spent ot manage that close to home and much ...more

short it.. manipulate it.. doesnt matter much.. you knock it down I buy more.. it goes up I sell some.. but not all of my buys.. so overal share count goes up.. and the days are numbered where it will be held down.. when it goes up on sales I'll laugh all the way to the bank.. until then it's all about share count to me
Comment by OptGreen on Jun 19, 2020 5:34pm
And we won't get there before the numbers dictate jf, there has been nothing to reverse that trend to date...short action really tapered off post Dec guidance and the picked up again slightly after the revision in Feb....the revision was an adjustment in timing of the roll out nothing material so the short action showed only a minor pick up. There has been a solid gain in product shelved and ...more

ya we need to start seeing some serious growth in revenue.  the inventory is there, the sales team is there, distribution improving, and stores expanding.  Q over Q growth in a serious way is necessary.  On a positive note - (despite the garbage close) -  for the first time in about a month - the OCS is fully stocked with all blissco and 7acres products.  finally pur dew ...more

Everything you are saying here is positive joh and today's close, while not what we want to see, is nothing of concern...the sector was flat to down pretty well across the board but still the best sector to be in as we wait to see if democrcy can survive or will it be replaced by a caliphate. or the like, if state control can be implemented, stateside first? I buy nothing but 7acres or ...more

In my opinion, who is they? I assume your trying to infer the .5% or less shorts? It's so insignificant it makes this post look desperate at best. What do you think is going happen when your entire facility is leveraged by an expensive loan leaving nothing left. I'm more shocked saying, only .03? This is still valued at a ridiculous price for having nothing but debt on the books. Give your ...more

I check in once in a while on this board and always the same stories being told: 1) shorts (oh boy!), 2) out of stock (again), 3) what the mj supply is at the corner store at Young and Queen (exciting), 4) changeover to B2C. No headlines grabbing news other than missed revenues and new ceos. Give me something to get excited about Beena please! There must be something better coming to talk about ...more
