Analyst has concerns on ACB's ability to grow premium flower

Bad news for ACB, Good news for FIRE...

Desjardins Securities analyst John Chu has increasing concerns about the ability of Aurora Cannabis Inc.’s (ACB-T) Aurora Sky facility to produce the premium flower expected from management.

Though he thinks the Edmonton-based company’s revised covenant provides additional flexibility and its decision to cut capacity and costs “should help keep the company on its path to positive EBITDA (albeit later than expected),” he thinks the output at its flagship facility is “the biggest unknown and risk factor.”

“The company has been testing Sky’s ability to grow premium cultivars throughout 2020 and management did tell us that the facility is still undergoing testing and trials to determine its capabilities,” said Mr. Chu. “Our concern is that premium flower is generally grown in a smaller footprint (less than 250,000 square feet or a maximum of 25,000 kilograms per year of capacity) and usually in an indoor setting vs a greenhouse; however, we are aware of premium flower being grown in greenhouse settings but under a smaller footprint (eg Rubicon with 11,000 kilograms per year of capacity).”

Supreme has been ahead of the game from the jump Dun, the 7acres facility's grow area is divided into 10,000ft2 rooms for grow control and to minimize/ contain crop loss....the facility is ~ 450,000ft2, less the admin and processing area, they should be close to 300,000ft2 of grow area? The 7acres facility is second to none....just need a 7acres II on the west coast, the highest quality grow ...more

Agree and disagree here. Supremes vision was to be a premium grower They are not a premium grower at this point. I'd say they are a high end-ish public LP. They dont hold a candle to other small craft growers. Especially with the emergence of the 7 acres auto-trimmer and CPG model. Supreme weed is strong amongst the Canopys, APhrias and Auroras. The big guys make sales from extracts. Not ...more

They are a solid AAA Brent with craft pushing up to quad. Reviews of 7acres products have been consistently solid besides moisture content (which has improved as inventory control has improved) and price (which has found a solid price point now). Craft has seen some solid support as their offerings are certainly competitive with some of the best. Although I will admit I have not tried their craft ...more

a good strain for seven acres to introduce would be the girl scout cookie strain.  also there is a lack of strains that have high cbd content.

girl scout cookies is grown by lots already and mediocore at best. The cbd flower market is very small. Dont think those ideas are high on priorities.

didnt know about hiring a mastergrower. I dont deny they grow good cannabis. They do. But many many others grow better cannabis. Be careful about only comparing 7acres to other public companies. There are tons of small batch growers now.  Remember. Outside of cannabis investors, nobody knows or cares who Supreme/7acres is. They need strong brand awareness. H&F has not acheived what they ...more

In my opinion, this is well said, more and more LPs divesting from the Canadian landscape because of the legislation and mass competition on all fronts. The grey market and LP cannabis looks to have floored out and flooded the market over the last month with grey product pricing under LP and massive amounts of product is sitting in storage, there's soooo much cannabis sitting around right now! ...more

I will agree supreme will not be able to compete with the small batch craft LPs. They really do come out with beautiful flower offerings. I do like though that supreme is making their flower better though. Perfect example was from today. I bought a Jack haze and Sensi star today. Both have the highers THC percentages i have seen both each cultivar (SS: 24.07% and JH: 22.33%) so they are certainly ...more

Hi. Brent,   Just an observation regarding your comparison to Qwest,   I checked reviews of Qwest through leafly ,  Qwest had a very positive rating of 4.4 out of 5 out of 350 or so reviews, 7acres had a rating of 4.4 out of 5 based on 750 or so reviews ,  the big takeaway from reading the reviews was the price point of Qwest,  there were many complaints about how ...more

So what youre saying is a 5 star rating for a civic is comparabe to a 5 star rating of a ferrari?  Perhaps civic isnt a fair comparrison. 7acres is more like a Denali. I do like 7acres. Thats not my point. But people are buying qwest at killer prices (I would never btw) and rating them high.  7acres is getting good feedback but still have really dropped their ppg. That tells me they ...more
