BAC is one of his biggest holding but he did trim some a short while ago.  Buffet's and Berkshire are way out of my league as far as informational tallying and resources go.  The point of my post was to give an example of where pressure on bank stocks, including some of those in FTN/BK, may be coming from.  We also can't rule out tax loss selling. It's that time of ...more

Sorry, I should have mentioned that when I pasted that.  However, it doesn't matter whether FTN owns it or not.  When an investement house has that much influence, IMHO the whole sector is influenced one way or another

DF a much better candidate for tax loss selling, now at $4.52 and spent the first 5 or 6 months of  2020 above $6.25. And not much for distributions collected. DFN also spent most of that time above 8 $ and may be a taxloss candidate, especially since the premium on the commons is about 4 or 5 times greater than FTN's . You seem to have a hardon for FTN, i dont see your negativity on any ...more

This isn't a personal thing.  I don't have a hard on for FTN, if I did, I wouldn't have recently purchased 30k units.  I like banks in general as an investment vehicle, simply because they lend money to every single sector of the overall market and they're about the most diverse investment that can be purchased by retail investors that give decent returns My posts were ...more

I should also have mentioned, people that bought in at the recent $12+ highs would do well by selling now, picking up their tax loss and reinvesting again at a much lower rate, with a much better chance of recouping previous losses with a nice capital gain in the new year.

I never play that many investment vehicles. Just don't have the time, assets or energy to do so.  I never play more than three investments at any given time and usually it's ONE.  If you can handle more, sincerely, good on you.  I have a much different approach to investing than you do and i'm comfortable with it. It's definitely not a 100% method and far from it ...more

Just over 20 years ago, I made a call into very well known and astute investor.  I really didn't expect to get through, but sometimes the stars are all aligned and....... I was always a very conservative investor and to this day I keep between 25-40% cash in my accounts.  I used to deal through brokers, until it became obvious they were making more money on my money than I was ...more

By the way, I rode EIT.UN for a long time and made a lot of money from it. If I had to buy and hold, it would definitely be one of the venues on the list.  One thing about betting on banks, they really are not much moret than heavily regulated ETFs, when push comes to shove.  Banks invest all over the world, internally, amongs each other lend money to all segments of the world's ...more

I hold less than 3% of everything I own in cash. Yes I am missing some upside; yet I sleep well at night knowing world events will not disrupt my life...
