ZEG Biogs and Porto do Au, in Rio de Janeiro, announced on Wednesday (4/10) the signing of a memorandum of understanding for the implementation of a biomethane plant with an initial production capacity of 5 million m³ per annum.

ZEG Biogs chose the Pindorama Cooperative to house the plant to be built in the municipality of Coruripe (AL) for biogas production. The project will receive an investment of around R$ 65 million. The unit will be built on an area of approximately five hectares, granted by the cooperative. The plant is expected to start operating in 2025 and produce six million m³ of biogas and biomethane per year.

The EQM Group and ZEG Biogs, the biogas and biomethane business arm of Vibra Energia (formerly BR Distribuidora) join forces to produce high-purity biomethane in Alagoas and Pernambuco. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has already been signed and in the coming days the contract will be signed between the parties. The two new biomethane production units will be located on the properties of the EQM Group: Usina Utinga, in Alagoas, and Usina Cucau, in Pernambuco – where the project is a pioneer. The investments are over R$ 90 million. The combined production capacity, in this first phase of implementation alone, is over 5.6 million cubic meters of biomethane annually..
