Hudson's Bay Co, or HBC, is a Canadian retail business group. The company operates department stores throughout Canada, Belgium, Germany, and the United States under various banners. These banners include Saks Fifth Avenue, Hudson's Bay, Lord & Taylor, and Off 5th in North America and Galeria Kaufhof, Galeria Inno, and Sportarena in Europe. HBC also has investments in real estate joint ventures. In Canada, it has partnered with RioCan Real Estate Investment Trust in the RioCan-HBC joint venture.

A few years back Canadian Tire was in a similar position.  Eventually they elected to simply spin off their real estate holdings into a REIT rather than leverage the value to buy other businesses.  The parent company is the primary holder of the REIT shares.

Sure wish I had kept my CTC shares.

I have little doubt that HBC is looking to capitalize on its real estate that it has accumulated over its 400 years of operation and is exploring options...which results in erroneous news reports of potential deals.

The short term news is not fun to endure, but I hang in there as I really do see the real estate as worth about twice as much as this stock is presently trading.
