Here is My Math For Today's Close..

Some have asked,

HOU closed yesterday at 3.13, the June 2020 futures at that time was 21.34.

Once you know those 2 numbers you can calculate the proper price at any time during the next trading day.

At the close of today the June futures finished at 13.11.

So, 21.34 - 13.11 = 8.23, 8.23/21.34 = .385 (June's losses from 4 yesterday to 4 today)

@2X = .77 HOU's losses over that same period.

Therefore HOU closing price is 3.13 (1-.77) = .72

Thank you very much for your explanation Matt  -  Greatly appreciated for those of us trying to figure these massive swings out  Dumb question based on all the confussion associated with the chaotitic price fluctuations of HOU compared to the oil price today, but if June 2020 futures climb back to $21.34, does HOU climb with it to $3.13?

This is the NAV not what people will pay for it. TORONTO, April 21, 2020 TORONTO, April 21, 2020 /CNW/ - Following its announcement earlier this morning, due to ongoing extreme market volatility in crude oil markets, Horizons ETFs Management (Canada) Inc. Matt,    In your PERSONAL opinion, does this open tomorrow relatively close to the CLOSE of today $2.32?
Comment by basketball4444 on Apr 21, 2020 5:29pm
Close being +10% to -10%
Comment by Mat1791 on Apr 21, 2020 5:35pm
Sorry, I doubt it.  Your mistaken by the wrong closing numbers, by my calculation today's close was around .71

Thanks....it's a good think I'm up $6k....it will minimize pain of holding 4.5k
Comment by GunnerG on Apr 21, 2020 5:53pm
From the halt to closing oil went up and the price would be recalculated. I believe it was talked about as .71.  It will be interesting to see if your wealthy friend and you are correct.
Comment by Mat1791 on Apr 21, 2020 5:20pm
If June 2020 climb from close today at 13.11 to 21.34 tomorrow (as an example), That would be 62.8% increase, for HOU 2X = 125.60% If HOU is at .71 then HOU would close at $1.60. It's always tough to make back once lost.  HOU needs to make 341% to get back to 3.13 That means oil needs to make 170.5% or based on the June contract $35.40!

I follow oil a lot and in my opinion oil will go up as soon as there is a sign of this virus levelling off... But think about it, in the USA they have 800k cases and want to open the economy back up, that would be a disaster, cases will skyrocket.. they have well over 300 million people in the US, in Canada it will also rocket as soon as the enconomy opens up again.. Oil is going to fill up ...more

Not sure where oil will evetually end up, my plan was always to target 35-40 oil when I first started to invest in HOU.   The quicker the economy returns, the quicker demand begins to return then I at least can say that oil will go up and not be at $13...

Thans Matt.... so for the board, the key will be the june future's value before market open tomorrow. The market will be open all night starting at 6:00 PM EST. The only value that counts is the June Future's contract before 9:30 a.m. EST.  The price of HOU will almost certainly be lower than it is now although all dependent on June futures and the percentage increase/loss times two. ...more

i think you are wrong. 38.5% not 38.5 cents 38.5%x2=77% SP would be down 77%. It did not because. it did not reflect assets. HOU is worth 0.37 cents now "TORONTO, April 21, 2020 /CNW/ - Following its announcement earlier this morning, due to ongoing extreme market volatility in crude oil markets, Horizons ETFs Management (Canada) Inc.
