Hear, hear. The economics of shale simply did not make any sense but bankers were so quick to provide ample of cash in return for production. That's what happened with ultra low interest rates you keep bad businesses running even though they should have been bankrupt long time ago. I believed then and I believe now that Alberta's oilsands are not only financially viable but also resource rich. While shale companies have to continue to drill just to maintain production our oilsands have 20+ years of proven resources and the large capital costs to build these plants have long been expended. The cost structure for many are now in the low $30s WTI so even in this environment with many having to ship products to refine they are still able to turn a profit.
