RE:Huge Volume" Weather, power grid, third-world county with massive poverty,..."
Are exactly the consequences of climate change that WILL prove problematic in the next few months ahead. I haven’t enough interest in Ivanhoe’s particular situation to do a reasonable examination of their electricity requirements and the supply/demand upon regional electric companies, etc. I did note that Ivanhoe mentioned getting power from Mozambique, which I understand is now 77% dependent upon hydro-generated power themselves, and recalled the ferocious storms that have started rolling in off the Indian Ocean in recent years.
Just imagine a Category 5 hurricane like Hurricane Otis Oct 22, 2023 – Oct 25, 2023 which made a devastating landfall in October 2023 near Acapulco as a Category 5 hurricane. Damage: $12–16 billion; (Costliest in the East Pacific; costliest in Mexican history) Highest winds: 165 mph (270 km/h) where you ship your metal to market.
If you are thinking that stuff is about to hit the fan, you are right. It’s not going to be pretty for anyone, but absolutely devastating for millions. As mining investors, we will continue to have an important role to play in delivering the materials our societies and nations need to maintain their economies, but ignoring the reality that is rapidly becoming clearer will only handicap our efforts to find successful solutions to the difficulties ahead.
I find I am losing interest in future posting on your board. What could be said from now but “I told you so”, and that’s such meager fare. I really wish you the best of luck.
Of course I will be watching to see developments in your area.
