BHP Group has made an unsolicited offer for Anglo American, according to a report by Bloomberg.

"This is all about copper. BHP becomes the global leader, knocking out Freeort,p" said Ben Cleary, portfolio manager at Tribeca Investment Partners, which holds shares in BHP and Anglo. Freeport just might come knocking as they will want that title back. Tomorrow will be interesting?????

And that's just the starting bid ................... maybe someone else throws in a bid ........................ With what IVN has going on and now you know there is no shortage of money for a mega  deal. That same starting offer to IVN is worth $31.00 a share to shareholders. And to think copper has just started to rise $$$$$. Everyone wants to get bigger and all the big boys all want ...more

The copper assets are the crown jewel of Anglo.  Its interesting because BHP has said several times they aren't really interested in the platinum assets or the diamond assets which make up over 40% of Anglo.  There is clearly a limited amount of large, tier 1 copper assets available out there.  So much so, BHP is willing to buy a large diversified producer which it will now have ...more

i do not think any one but the chinese that already own the ivn shares would be able to make a successful bid for ivn

The Chinese own their position in this for supply chain reasons, not to make a profitable trade.  I agree, the only takeover that will ever happen here is the Chinese taking it all.
