I think this buy back is a really smart move
This will put the shorters and naysayers on notice that Kinross is able and ready to defend the share price over the next three years. Keeping the dividend and growing the business and buying back shares should mean a much higher share price in the future.

The question is whether Kinross should have held cash in strategic reserve rather than trying to return it to shareholders. Sure, we all enjoy a share buyback. But more than that, at least for us long term holders, overall stability and reserves is more important.

Stockstarker, you are spot on Tye Burke started the dilapidation of K and our shareholder value. He did sweet talk many institutional investors to hang in while the company plummeted.
