I understand the search for comparisons in your question, but "shorting" can be hugely variable across companies and sectors and, I advise, should not be analysed under "averages"....
example for demonstration purposes only: Silver Crest (SIL-T) which is well advanced to open a mine in Mexico in the near furure, the % short traded volume was 52.18 % with Value $18.594 million in most recent 2 week reporting period, up from 36.99 % and $16.19 million in the previous 2 weeks, while a much longer term deposit-development-compsany such as (example) Wallbridge (WM-T) reflected 6.60% short traded volume with $0.49 million in the most recent 2 week reporting period.
