I think you can draw your own conclusions when looking at these charts.  Turn off the Log and view both inflation adjusted on/off.

It was a mania/bubble - just look at that silver chart.  I rememeber a friend of mine's father bought all his kids pure gold & silver  for christmas - probably 1980.  ouch.  How many rode that up and all the way back down?  That was fast.

But the difference is wild gold bugs think it's going to go to some crazy number (say 50K) and say there/continue to rise because of a collapse of currencies/debt levels.  I have heard that dire prediction for over 23 years now since i got interested in PM's.

Lots of industrial uses for silver.
