A MUST READ: Message today from the Opposition House Leader

Hi Mrs. Obscure1

Thank you for your email and the information you sent, all related to the Prime Minister’s decision to invoke the Emergencies Act on Feb. 14, 2022. You can read the declaration of emergency here.

It is important to note that all measures of the order are currently in place.  They came into effect the day the Prime Minister announced it.  That means that Trudeau has given himself the power of the emergencies act including the provision to seize or freeze the bank accounts of Canadians.  This is a massive overarch by Trudeau and not surprising given the pattern he has shown during his six years in power.

As required, a motion has been tabled outlining the declaration of emergency and a debate is currently happening in the House of Commons. On Monday, Feb. 21, MPs will vote and if the majority of Parliament votes against the government’s motion, it will be defeated, and emergency powers will be revoked.  It will pass because the NDP will be supporting it.

This historic action imposed on all Canadians by the Prime Minister is extremely disappointing. Justin Trudeau has failed to meet the high threshold set out by the emergency act to justify his decision and along with my Conservative colleagues, I will be voting against the motion.

Instead of listening to Canadians and taking meaningful action to de-escalate the situation in Ottawa over the past few weeks, the Prime Minister continues to wedge, stigmatize, traumatize and divide Canadians.  He has called Canadians “racist”, “misogynist”, and “extremist’.  He has also said those who do not share his views or agree with him should not be “tolerated”.  I believe he is unfit to be the Prime Minister.

I have heard from thousands of my constituents across Barrie-Innisfil who are concerned about the Prime Minister’s action and the lack of leadership that he has shown over the past weeks and the Prime Minister’s action and the lack of leadership that he has shown over the past weeks and months.  It should have never got to this point.d months.  It should have never got to this point.

Conservatives are listening to Canadians who want to move past the pandemic. I brought forward a motion along with Conservative Leader Candice Bergen on February 10th asking the government to present a plan to remove all federal mandates and restrictions. This reasonable solution was rejected by the Liberals and NDP and instead, Justin Trudeau took this unprecedented step to reach for more power by invoking the Emergencies Act.

I will continue standing up for Barrie-Innisfil and I appreciate hearing your views on this extremely important issue. Thank you for taking the time to reach out to me.

Sincerely,

John Brassard
Opposition House Leader
