My big q

With copper averaging 2.50 a pound for a decade, ncu spends a billion on property. Two billion with compound interest. Then all of a sudden, with 4.50 copper can not raise the last 50 million to take it to name plate.

Seams weird.

A problematic, poorly performing, marginal deposit operated by poor management loses money and files chapter 11. What is so difficult to understand or even surprising.

U don't know what U R talking about..  its 0.5% all the way to california..  General Motors pulled 200M Tons and threw away the iron - molly - gold silver..  Anaconda Mt or sawtooth came in and attempted to Heap Leach - madre a mess  - the mine was never designed as a heap.. how and why ARCO or Peabody Cole come in and Brought the Mine - is a mystery..  ARCO did get ...more

My read of the situation is that all the potential creditors wanted predatorial deals unfavourable to shareholders.  The bankruptcy trigger protected them.

That is kind of my guess mack. So now an outright sale. Thanks for that. Nf
Comment by nofluff on Jun 25, 2024 12:26pm
I think I finally figured how a change of control would have looked. Pala and Merc would have had to sell at least 800 million shares. The taker would have had to clean up back debt and fund the infrastructure finish. The sale will no doubt have a lot of different looks. I think Rio tinto might win. With there participation next door on there leach new tech. Ncu would b another foot in the camp. ...more

I would be happy with $1 per share.... Kw
Comment by KentWilkens on Jun 25, 2024 12:57pm
Oh, and i doubt it trades again, will be all done in the deal. Far too many variables and unknowns to allow trading on the market, which could be irrelevant to the bids. Expected price per share.. 0 - $2 0 = normal pessimism  $2 win the lottery optimism ;) Kw

The reason I think it may trade is because it was halted until bidding starts. If, sh bids 0.20 cents for shares, many would accept that. If final bid is 2.00,  all buys less would be bonus. This will not be structured for ma and pop. Nf

If ma and pop have to wait a hundred days, it could hurt. The way this is structured, is that large deposits must accompany bids. So all bids must b substantially higher than sh. So those that hold to end, garranteed to get the most. The bids can be structured in many ways.  Us sh are only concerned with how much we get. Nf
Comment by nofluff on Jun 25, 2024 2:42pm
I suspect that when a bid is substantially outbid, that the deposit would be returned and bidder could resubmit. Nf
Comment by nofluff on Jun 25, 2024 2:46pm
There will likely b processing fees withheld from rejected bids. So bidders need to be serious. I am not expecting much until close to closing. Good chance for a final 1 day auction. Nf
