Shock on the Streetsof Almaty with the announcement today of a ninth party candidate that will further split the electorate in the upcoming Kazakhstan presidential election. Journalist Borat Sagdiyev filed today for the post left vacant by the resignation of long time leader Nursultan Nazarbayev. Mr. Sagdiyev, better known as simply Borat to his rabid followers, is convinced he will pull off a Volodymyr Zelensky on June 9. Planks on his platform include nation wide compulsory uranium mining and bringing "professional, decent people to power."
Mr. Sagdiyev, 47, born and raised in the village of Kuzcek, Kazakh SSR to Asimbala Sagdiyev and Boltok the Rapist, plans to run for the Hand and Mouth Party against the early favourite Radiant Fatherland Party leader and apparatchik, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
Jambyl Akhmetbekov represents the Communist Party.
Amangeldy Taspikhov, 59, from the West Kazakhstan Region, was nominated April 24 from the Kazakh Trade Unions Federation.
Zhumatai Aliyev, 66, from the Zhambyl Region, was nominated by the Khalyk Demographiyasy Public Association.
Amirzhan Kosanov, 54, from the Kyzylorda Region, was nominated by the Ult Tagdyry United National Patriotic Movement.
According to the nomination stage results, nine candidates submitted the necessary documents; however, Ak Zhol Democratic Party member Talgat Yergaliyev later withdrew his name in support of the party’s single candidate, Daniya Yespayeva.
Toleutai Rakhimbekov, 54, from the Karaganda Region, was nominated by the Auyl People’s Democratic Patriotic Party.
Sadybek Tugel is the other confirmed candidate.
