Social psychology and behavioral economics can help, but they are no cure all. I published one of the earliest papers in behavioral economics regarding risk and safety issues. I studied with some of the top risk oriented social psychologiists and economists in the world. That did not stop me from losing huge amounts of money in stocks particularly in the last 14 months. More important than concepts about behaviour are mentors, oversight systtems, the ability to learn with small stakes and deep pockets. Not to mention a lot more attention than I was paying.
