Primary Symbol: PHO

The investment seeks to track the investment results (before fees and expenses) of the NASDAQ OMX US Water IndexSM (the underlying index). The fund generally will invest at least 90% of its total assets in the securities that comprise the underlying index. The underlying index seeks to track the performance of companies that create products designed to conserve and purify water for homes, businesses and industries. The underlying index may include common stocks, ordinary shares, American depositary receipts (ADRs), shares of beneficial interest and tracking stocks. The fund is non-diversified.

That's not quite accurate.
The switches had only one moving part.  It was a simple guillotine type mechanism where a blade just blocked and unblocked the light beam.

It was touted as a much safer design than conventional switches due to the lack of electricity involved.  Then they realized that with the level of safety we now have in our world, nobody is concerned about safety.  In other words, there aren't enough people getting killed to make customers look out for better alternatives to the traditional technology.

They were also looking at the marine market.  Corrosion in electrical switches is a big problem.  Since the switches Photon designed used 100% plastic parts, they were immune to the effects.  There was even a joke that the switch would actually work better if it was totally submerged!
