Quarterly Dividends

I am not very happy to go from a monthly Dividend to a quarterly Dividend. The obvious advantage of a monthly dividend was

1) Reinvesting it monthly and

2) Monthly budgeting

Not too impressed, but I guess I have no Option. I will not selll the stock as I like the stock.

Your comments!

I could see a small hike during the transition period to quarterly... That said I think most would prefer to the monthly, but there is likely a rational reason behind abandoning it, maybe administrative costs to payout 3 times more often. I would have liked a different schedule as very few companies pay Nov, Feb, May, August... I finally found and jumped in one I feel good about... you can ...more

Hey Ariahp, Noted::We are mainly a  dividend/distribution Investor & NOT a trader of any sort but only IF positons get over weighted or  a major down fall within the company.. Back in Time we were a very BIG believer in DRIPrograms both mainly Treasury OR brokerage IF nothing else was available. Now we collect the cash as the TAX man is more demanding  as we age.:>( ...more

The only stock I hold is Pembina. There. I said it. And it's a major major holding. It gives me 6 figures of dividends annually. And that's basically my retirement income. Some of you may think I'm taking too much risk by not taking a more diversified approach... but I'm very comfortable with this decision. I've lost millions of dollars in the past having invested in ...more

King of Kings This is the best post I have seen on this bullboard. Thank you for taking the time to explain the rationale behind Pembina being such a good company. I own over 66k shares of PPL which is 75% of my portfolio. I also own Key,Enb, Su,BCE, IGM and BNS. All giving me fabulous dividends to live on rather comfortably.

Hey King Very interesting. Investing is obviously very personal and if this is working for you, then good on ya. I certainly would rather have 1 stock than 100 like so many people seem to do. The financial industry has scared people into thinking that they need lots of diversification across multiple sectors and multiple countries and that they heed fixed income, etc, etc. What a CROCK!! I also ...more

Hey Sarge! I agree with your negative assessment of the conventional wisdom re the need for fixed income and the need for geographic diversification (but we acknowledge that even with TSX listed companies like ENB, TRP, NWH.un, DIR.un, etc. we acheive significant geographic exposure courtesy of their asset locations). I am still uncertain what to think about diversification. I agree that 100 is ...more

Hey CSC Good point on the geographic diversification that the TSX multi-nationals give. It always is an interesting topic on how many holdings to have. I think the "sweet" spot is 10-20. With your large portfolio, I can see having more although some of the holdings are too complex for me. I like simple stuff that is easy to understand and easy to follow.
