IF you own a large number of shares you can dump them on the market and it does drop the spot price as you dump. All you have to do is compare spot price to PPLT share volume to see the effect.
PPLT share volume won't tell you anything beyond how many shares were traded. To get the impact of net buying or selling, you have to track underlying Pt holdings in PPLT, which some people do, but I haven't the time. Enough people track this, that if there were an unusual exodus from PPLT (similar to last year, at this time) it would likely be reported by some analysts.
Did you check out that "China clamp down" link? When I read this story this morning, it really cleared up a lot of questions in my mind. I can't say for sure that this was the most dominate reason for the recent metal's tanking, as many articles are pointing to US dollar as the culprit. But it made a lot of sense to me that the new restrictions provided significant feed to that commodity bear. Maybe, now that the news is out, the real PGM deficit story can come back into the spotlight? Who knows.
JOGMEC is not in the business of mine development. IMO, the best we can hope for with them, is that they can line up a suitable developer to buy out their position, who has deep pockets. Again, PGM price direction makes a key difference. At least with Waterberg, valuation is more dominate by Pd, than Pt, and Pd price is holding up better than Pt's.
