RE:Plasma heated furnace for iron ore pellet induration

RE:Plasma heated furnace for iron ore pellet induration

Basically the old oil burner is removed and the torch goes directly in the same spot. No modification to the furnace, the torch will be probably be designed to fit the mounts on the furnace or an adapter could be fabricated to interface the torch and the furnace. Simple installation by the sounds of it. A huge selling point is the can be hot swapped with no production shutdown or losses.

metalsmith66 wrote: Hola,  i was really interested in the process that Pyrogenesis had developed for the iron ore pellet industry. Basically; my wife and I were curious how the whole thing worked and we were trying to figure out how an off the shelf furnace could "bolt on" etc :) before we decided to invest further.

After looking up the patent, I was really impressed with how the process as described in the patent not only dramatically reduces the green house gases but also greatly improves the drying efficiency of the pellets. This appears to be an important factor for the industry.

Quote:
Furthermore, the combustion gases, which are used to dry the ore pellets, are, in addition to CO2, composed of water vapor, which is not an optimal composition as a drying gas.

Because of the important release of green-house gases, of the low energy efficiency of the heating process and of the fact that a wet gas (that is a combustion gas containing water vapor in addition to carbon dioxide and nitrogen) is used in the drying zone of the furnace, there is a need for an improved technology for the induration of iron ore concentrate pellets.

We found this very helpful for envisioning how this would work.

Cheers everyone!
