RE:I just REMOVED ALL MY SHARESI think the ability for your shares to be borrowed for shorting depends on the account they are in.
I placed an order long ago very high and the bank (BMO) either called me or didn't accept the order (cant remember) saying the order too far away from price. When I was with TD, I could place any price withour question.
When I questioned BMO, they gave me some story about the price has to be reasonable, which in my opinion it was but I still should be able to place whatever price I want.
Conclusion after my questioning, I asked what I can do to prevent the bank lending my shares for shorting.
The gentleman was very defensive and didn't want to give me anyu information but kept on over and over to refer me to my contract agreement when I opened the account.
Eventually, he said that if my shares are in a registerred account, they cannot lend them for shorting but he refers me to the account agrement document.
Who reads all thes fine print?
I don't trust these banks.
