Stocks don't exist in a vacuum and are very much affected by outside stimulus in addition to specific company news. Today for instance all markets got crushed, everything is down across the board.
Why? Mostly because of lack of movement politically on the next stimulus / aid package in the US government. It caused uncertainty in the market and the market doesn't like that, so drove down values as investors removed some money from the markets, or shifted it from equities to hard assets, minerals, and currencies. US market activity affects Canadian markets, always.
