RE:HPQIf it's just a paper loss or a paper gain due to the value of an asset, what difference does it make either way? They can spin it however they want in the news release but the transparency is there if you want to see it, there's nothing hidden. If you discredit the paper gains when they help the eps in a quarter, you should also be discrediting paper loss when it hurts in a quarter. You can't have it both ways.
