To get some news released today ahead of tomorrow's Special Meeting/AGM. Sure would add some nice flavour and generate additional interest to tomorrow's session.

I think any news that was a material change would have to be released publicly first otherwise it would be insider information wouldn't it?

Ghost of Robert McWhirter is still there. It's almost analogous to Napoleon Hills, where for one bad word (news) you need 20 good once to level up.
