The ability of these drugs to reduce obesity obviously would effect the root cause of most sleep apnea's.. and as mentioned in the article both treatments produce best results used in combination, once the "root" cause has been eliminated, the need for PAP treatment will certainly decreasse over time.. IMO those are headwinds that now face QIIPT which were not there originally.. to ...more

"Obviously would affect the root cause."  That's just it: obesity is not the root cause.  Obesity makes it worse but is not the cause.  I've had it since before I became a fat old man, lol, and in fact I am using less pressure now than when I was younger.

Ok thanks for the feedback Griz.. my understanding was obviously too narrow on the subject.. none the less I would think that reducing obesity would help the issue..??  By the way "fat old men" describes alot of us..! LOL.. Although I don't  have the problem..

There are actually a few different types of Sleep Apnea, the 2 most common types are Obstructive Sleep Apnea which often improves with weight loss. Then there is Central Sleep Apnea which is cause by a brain problem that isn't always telling the body to breathe. Then there is a combination of both, which unfortunately affects me. Yes, in general it does improve the situation from what I have read because neck fat puts pressure on the weakened glottal structures - but they are still weak.  And as mentioned, my personal experience doesn't follow that paradigm.  Numerous factors - brain function, smoking, stress all contribute to the condition.
