An Ottawa company is set to throw down with some powerful tech titans in a Texas court.
WiLAN is taking on the likes of Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, HTC America and Sony in a case claiming that they infringed four patents related to 3G network technologies.
“We believe that the constructions [of the court] enable WiLAN to demonstrate infringement of the patents by the defendants’ 3G HSPA base station and handset products,” said WiLAN President & CEO Jim Skippen. “We remain very confident of our position in this case.”
A favourable ruling for WiLAN could lead to a settlement of hundreds of millions of dollars if the defendants don’t wish to continue to trial on April 8, 2013.
