Apple's motion was submitted late in the day so I expect appeal would be filed late in the day as well. We should know be end of day.

Yes -- and from what I can assess, it would make sense even if there are ongoing talks.  That's what the court system is a surrogate for -- putting pressure on your adversary, no matter what the outcome. It's possible we'll see a deal, but not likely before Apple appeals.  It's also possible we could see a "tentative deal" sooner subject to final negotiations /

Today is the last day. I suspect filings by both at the end of business today, pacific time. Unless a deal has been struck in principle and we hear the details in a few days.

Apple's motion was for a retrial. I believe the motion appeared in the docket after the market closed. So after 1 p.m. California time. I expect we would see Apple's appeal after market close. I'm not sure how Wi-LAN will be handling their potential litigation. For instance, if Wi-LAN wants treble damages for the post-iPhone 7 models, will that be a new case?
