Clayton H. Riddell (1937 - 2018)

Born on a farm near Treherne, Manitoba, Clay graduated with a bachelor of science degree in geology from the University of Manitoba in 1959 before moving to Alberta to start his career in oil and gas.

Getting his start at Chevron Standard, he would go on to found many oil and gas companies throughout his career, most notably Paramount Resources which he founded in 1976(IPO in 1978) and of which he was Chairman at the time of his passing.

In 2006, Mr. Riddell was inducted into the Calgary Business Hall of Fame and in 2008 he was made an Officer of the Order of Canada.  He shared his love of sport, education, industry and community with those closest to him and leaves behind a legacy that will last many lifetimes.

His legacy in the industry is carried on by his children, daughter Sue Riddell Rose and son Jim Riddell.

“I always tell people that I started several small oil companies because I wasn’t smart enough to run a big one...I don’t think I’ve ever thought about legacy, It’s been a fun journey...We’re looking at least one more generation trying it out, we’re hoping that it will stay in the family and be part of the Canadian landscape for a while." God bless Alberta!
