RE:Phillipines mine ordered closed

RE:Phillipines mine ordered closedNo doubt Ms. Lopez would have approved of this action. If Gina had not been rejected by the PH congress there would have been many more shutdowns. Good to see Pres. Duterte still cares about the nation's environment and is willing to do something about it.

>>>MANILA — Gina Lopez, a former environmental activist who introduced a crackdown on Philippine mining companies after she was appointed the country’s environmental secretary in 2016, died on Monday. She was 65....Ms. Lopez landed the job of acting environment secretary when President Rodrigo Duterte came to power in 2016. She wasted no time in going after major mining companies that she said had flagrantly violated environmental laws....But Ms. Lopez’s swift assault on the industry faced stiff opposition from influential mining groups, and she was forced from her job when the Philippine Congress denied her confirmation to the post just 10 months after Mr. Duterte had appointed her.
