But this may be why Ni is spiking ($18,500 at present).  36% of LME Ni stock is Russian and traders are rushing to turn 'Type 1' (pre sanction) into 'Type 2' (restricted post sanction) metal in some convoluted scheme explained here:

I tried.  I tapped out at the point the "and sold it back" bit started. The thought that kept recurring in my mind was, that it is the traders that needed sanctioning.  It sounds like this would work a whole lot more the way it was intended if they imposed: "touch Russian-minded metals, lose your trading status on the LME".
