KAISER on EMCKAISER BULLISH on EMC and DINES talking SCANDUIM..
D Pescod: You follow (if anything) way too many stocks. I still don’t know how you do that, but if you had to pick three stories to watch in the coming year, what might they be that stand out to you?
J. Kaiser: One is my sort-of rare earth stock for everybody who missed the rare earth boom that we’ve been talking about for the last to years and that’s EMC Metals Corp. (EMC).
It has a tungsten project that they are trying to sell right now and tungsten prices are making record highs so it looks like they will likely find a buyer for that project. But their new focus is developing scandium which is one of these rare elements that there’s no supply in existence right now and it is key to making aluminum scandium alloys which if you can make the scandium available, you would see the aircraft industry completely change the aluminum that is used for making them because it’s much lighter and stronger and it can be welded. Scandium is also a criti- cal input for one version of the solid oxide fuel cells I mentioned as a future driver of natural gas demand. So I see this company which has gone from
.10 to about
.40 in the last month ending up being a darling next year
