Seem to be up impressively until you realize telephone poles and railroad ties were down 8%.
All led by residential lumber sales including logs up over 100%.
Debt also rose.

I was leaning towards slightly positive with results. With the last couple years dealing with a decrease than increase in lumber prices; with the major shareholder selling in 3 seperate bought deals. Senior management departed and a push recently to do share buy backs. Glad to see some improvements or just that the market has taken notice. You are right . I did miss the foreign exchange factor . Pasting an article about the wood preservative that was discontinued ; Stella Jones and thier customers do have options as the penta pole inventories get used up.   Pentachlorophenol is on its way out as a utility pole preservative. Always seems to take the full downside of when lumber companies dip. Prices seem to be a massive question mark and could go in either direction. Some are reporting issues getting lumber others sounding if the hardware stores have sufficient inventory. Big question mark on a potential KSU merger and if that comes with benefits or negatives if they in house railway ties. SJ management seemed on ...more
