New to this stock

I am wondering why its so unstable and volatile?  The other pipeline and infrastructure stocks are acting strong and seem to have a consistent bid under them.  Why is this one acting so erratic? Thanks.

Debt

Thank you, Yanner.  I would like to take a long position here for the nice dividend.  Please help me out with understanding the safety of this stock and its ability to pay the distributions. my understanding is that they have a low growth, weather-dependent propane business and a new acquisition in green fuels which has more growth opportunity.  Also, lots of debt due to a number of ...more

Interesting thing I just noticed...  spb and enb are both EXACTLY down 18% on a 2 year chart.  I am trying to buy equal weight as they payout on opposite months. The performance is correlated so close it must be tied to rates.  Gives me a bit of confidence.
Comment by Divypro on Feb 24, 2024 5:12pm
ENB is a far superior stock to SPB. ENB will continue to raise its dividend every December but SPB will not increase at all. Buy ENB not SPB. If you want an alternate high dividend stock look at TRP or GEI.
Comment by ScroogeMcDuck1 on Feb 24, 2024 6:38pm
Thanks, agree Gei is great.   Good options.  These analyst price targets of 15$ for spb seem quite aggressive so will likely keep a certain holding and see what happens.
Comment by himmler on Feb 26, 2024 10:30pm
Pay no attention to targets. They are completely useless. The % accuracy is terrible simply because nobody knows the future...it's that simple. Look at SPB..or any oilco  example,You'll  see that most are down from from ,say ,6 months ago.The reason is simple as we had a mild winter.Who accurately predicted how bad it would be? Pipelines are somewhat  immune as they are needed ...more

Superior has one of the highest payout ratios on the TSX so, a lot of their free cash goes to shareholders. In addition, Brookfield Asset Management (BAM) invested $350 million in Superior preferred shares which pays them a monthly 7.25% dividend. Also, BAM can convert the preferred shares to common stock at any time at an exchange rate of $11.63 per share. I think, a lot of Superior's profits ...more

I don't think betting on hydrogen is risky at all. In fact we are late to the game. Toyota, Honda and now the Big 3 are headed that way. It won't be moved in pipelines.
Comment by Schussing56 on Feb 26, 2024 9:21pm
Well, I suppose it depends on what your views are about climate change. Personally, I, along with many top scientists, think that the climate change hysteria is mostly political. Western countries don't want countries like Russia getting rich because they're afraid what Russia will do with the money. It has been proven scientifically that humans have the ability to influence less than 1 ...more

Lol. You have an "opinion" on climate change? Wake up. We're way past opinions.

And Morguard, or whatever they call themselves, are building gas terminals as we speak. I'm pretty sure that part of their motivation for selling Spb was to facilitate that.

100 percent correct SCH56. Some time ago I was involved in an engineering study in the Niagara Penninsule. While doing "basic research" of its water resources, I learned thet in the years of 1819-1820 THERE WAS NO WINTER, to speak of. As a result in the farmers' market of Merritvill- which is called St. Catherines today, they were selling RADISHES ON THE 1ST OF MAY. Similarily the ...more

Geez....Doug Ford promised us "a buck a beer"...now we have Peter Rabbit promising cheap houses, "powerful" paycheques, lower taxes and balanced budgets !!! I'm surprised he hasn't thrown swamp land in Florida in that package! As for oil, Alberta's oil production has gone up almost 30% since 2015. So much for Danielle's claim that Trudeau is "killing the ...more

Silmilarily, if there were competitions for lying, your Peter Rabbit would heve been world champion for the last 15 years, by authoring this: "we, t(he liberals) don't have to balance the budget it will balance itself"." . Also, if we did not sell our oil  to our American neighbours(about 20% per year) our money(the loony)  would only be worth about 59 cents US, if ...more

I'm sure you have a whole collection of quotes taken out of context....but your numbers are hilarious.... "20% per year"??? What is hilarious your comprehension of what is written Packerdriver. 20 per cent of the oil used by the US is from Canada, which we sell at a discount, because the morons in Ottawa will not allow a pipeline to the east coast of this country to sell our oil at a more advantageous price to Europe. The loony is between 0.735 and 0.74 $ US., not .75, but if you can get 75 US cents for your loony, let ...more

I'm not a mind reader, I can only read what you type, bud. "if we did not sell our oil  to our American neighbours(about 20% per year)" The tolls recently announced by the regulator for the TMX pipeline will be 11 dollars a barrel. How much do you think the tolls would be for a pipeline (pipedream) at least 4 times as long and built through the hard rock of the canadian shield ...more

with all due respect, who cares who was against it.....when nobody can be found to finance/build it. bttmfischer. Please learn a bit of recent history. April 17, 2019 Quebec Premier Franois Legault says there's no appetite for a new pipeline in the province, despite an appeal from Alberta's premier-designate. In his victory speech on Tuesday, Jason Kenney called on Legault, in French, to help Alberta get its oil to market.  Legault praised Kenney Wednesday for his ...more

"would transport" ??? The Trans Canada Mainline has been transporting Alberta gas to Quebec for some SEVENTY years!!! Actually, Trans Canada Pipelines is an American company. The Canadian branch was called Western pipelines. The original Trans Canada mainline, stretching from the Alberta/Saskatchewan border to the Quebec/Vermont border, was paid for 50-50 by Canada and the United States. My comment about climate change was used to illustrate a point about the riskiness of Superior Plus (SPB) investing so much in the hydrogen business - Certarus. A good place to start regarding the validity of what the climate change radicals are saying is Steven Koonin's book, "Unsettled: What Climate Science Tells Us, What it Doesn't, and Why it Matters." Ok, you don't like my Koonin example. How about National Geographic magazine? NG clearly demonstrated that "climate change" is natural, and has nothing to do with manmade pollution. NG also provided evidence that many of the so-called "climate change" scientists are being paid by government grants. If they don't say what they're supposed to then, that government ...more
