The public narrative and the political push is to significantly reduce the demand for oil. While many here, including myself, think this narrative is full of holes, to the "unwashed hordes" this is what they believe - it is their reality like it or not.
So to these people, the company buying back shares so that they have a bigger percentage share of the company with the shares they own means in their heads that they have a bigger share of a future nothing.
Until SU can show it is more than a one trick pony, this perception by the market will persist despite incredible FCF numbers.
