RE:RE:RE:Off Topic - Shopify

RE:RE:RE:Off Topic - ShopifyI can't disagree with any of the Earnings driven arguements.  SHOP is a growth story thru and thru.

The last time SHOP dipped below 1700, I jumped in for a flip.  I got lucky and the price popped up so I sold for a nice flip which provided a shot of fun.  If I had stuck around to a few weeks, I could have had a mickey.

Unless the price pops (up or down), I intend to stick around to see what the numbers are on Feb 16th.  The consensus is for earnings to be down, which has driven the share price down by over 1/3.  My gut tells me that they will BEAT, but I don't have any empirical data to back that up.

The politicos continue to force more and more small business owners out of business.  Small buinsess has been the backbone of our economy since the concept of an economy came along.  The guy filling up ahead of me at Costco today runs a chiro clinic and they have been closed for a year and a half.  He said it has been a tough couple of years.  I don't think they are the only ones.

At some point, I believe the small business disenfranchised will dig in and create new small businesses.  The alternative is that we become a welfare state, or perhaps worse, all work for the state.  I don't think that is what people want for themselves.

I think SHOP is one of many companies that have and will continue to lay the framework for a new way of doing business so I think the growth is likely sustainable for awhile yet.

I can't justify the multiples for TSLA for example because I think that there are some giant auto companies (backed by their governments who can't afford to absorb massive layoffs) that are going to fight TSLA real hard down the road.  In addition, I don't see how the infrastructure can be put in place to support 100% EV transportation before something better comes along.

SHOP on the other hand is helping those who have been pushed out due to a political power grab.  I guess I'm just betting on human nature rather than crying chicken little.

Be that as it may, it the tech's start getting slammed again, just like Kramer from Seinfeld,     "I'm Out".  I wish I knew how to attach the clip as it is still funny all these years later.
